"Postal Date Stamps of Perth GPO 1854 to 1912" 80 page, 5 frame exhibit formed by the late Trevor Spencer. The family has requested we offer this as a complete exhibition. Frame 1: early date stamps, obliterators & duplex strikes noting several imperfs good to fine used all selected for postal markings incl 6d black-bronze part roulette at the top & both sides (SG 22). 1863 proving cover for 15 Bar 3 numeral from Perth to Fremantle with the bar numeral & the date stamp SOS 1 5th Feb 1863 both in blue ink. 2d orange-vermilion with part roulette, top & right frames. Very fine & scarce. 6d violet (SG 57) on 1865 cover to England plus a second cover also dated 1865 whilst an 1853 cover to England has 6d lilac, perf. 14 & a local cover has "Superintendent of Telephones" in red ink bottom left with duplex DxA-5 top right. Finishes with Works & Railways frank stamp W535.1 on piece cancelled with duplex DxB-9, 20th AP 1894. Frame 2 incls 1884 mourning cover to England with SG 79 tied by duplex DxC-2 (very fine), a printed cover to New York (very fine) & ½d sepia locally addressed postcard PC7 with Perth duplex Dxl-2 (very fine) plus "Speaker of Legislative Assembly" frank stamp on piece with duplex cancel DxE-1 GPO/P (very fine). Also a fine 1896 "Saddler" cover from Perth to Woodbridge with 2 x 1d carmine swans tied by duplex DxE-2 GPO/D in blue ink. Frame 3 with 1901 cover to England with 2½d blue swan (SG 116) tied by duplex DxF-4 index 1 (very fine), 1912 "Osbourne Steps Cottesloe" (Austral series colour postcard), ½d green & "ONE PENNY" surcharge in black ink tied by Perth cds A25T-d (very fine) & ½d blue postcard PC.19 unaddressed but cancelled by D26T-b cds. Frame 4 commences with Ship Mail Room circular date & duplex markings, "Public Works Department" frank stamp W540.6 (rare) cancelled by duplex DxG-1, dated 7th Sept 1898 (earlier than 28 Oct 1898 recorded by Karman), 2d brown-red letter card (LC2) with Ship Mail Room duplex DxG-2 index 3 for 22 OCT 02. Fine & extremely scarce as the number delivered was only 5760. Also 5 x 1898 to 1912 Registered "Office of Titles" covers. All locally addressed & fine. Frame 5 with Letter Carriers Room, Mail Receiving Room, parcel stamps & poste restante markings noting 2d blue lettercard LC3 with LCR duplex cancel DxHT (very fine & scarce), a b&w photographic postcard of man standing next to large "black boy" plant (Rae Bro) with LCR duplex DxHT Dec 1903. A little damaged on the back but a great scarcity. In all, this collection contains 45 postal stationery items, 15 picture postcards & 43 envelopes as well as numerous stamps.
